Our Team
Wefwafwa Andrew and Rex Soderlund met in 2023, with a shared interest in building an international network and science communication.
While in university, Rex reached out to numerous science professionals around the world until one of them replied: Wefwafwa Andrew from Uganda.
Together, they collaborated for World Malaria Day, putting together the Uganda: Home of the World event at Saint Leo University.
After the success of the event, they decided to continue working together. Wefwafwa expressed a need for a newsletter to keep his audience informed, and in 2023: The Liger was created.
Wefwafwa is a Medical Clinical Officer working in the Manafwa district of Eastern Uganda, currently completing a Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery degree. He's spent four years providing direct patient care in a region with a critical shortage of physicians, and has chosen to stay and build rather than leave for the city. His long-term goal is a medical facility in his village. The Liger exists partly to fund that.

Rex is a science communicator and MSP3 graduate student at USF Morsani College of Medicine, training toward a career as a uniformed services physician. He tutors pre-med and undergraduate students, publishes RXMD on the rhetoric and epistemology of science, and co-writes The Liger with Wefwafwa. His work in Uganda started from a simple conviction: good science and genuine philanthropy can solve real problems when they're aimed at the same target.
